Summer is here and it is time to be more conscientious about sun exposure. But help may be on the way. The May 19 issue of the journal Molecular Cell published that scientists at USC Keek School of Medicine have recently discovered a sunscreen gene. This gene may protect against melanoma, the most dangerous and deadly form of skin cancer. This discovery may help scientists develop drugs that can prevent skin cancer.
This research may help most the highest risk group, those who have the mutated UV-resistant gene or those with low levels of the UV-resistant gene. Until then, keep using lots of sunscreen and enjoy summer!
